What is a Social Media News Release (SMNR)?

A Social Media News Release or SMNR is a way in which to create press releases for online media. The audience is more varied in SMNRs than in normal news releases (http://www.realwire.com/servicesSMNR.asp).

What are the advantages & disadvantages of a SMNR?

The advantages are you can get more interested audiences with the help of your tags, you have multimedia options available, you can have different formats and make them easier to read, you can include links, can be searched on the web, can be shared, can have extra information available if needed, more visually-appealing . The disadvantage, in my opinion is not having the news release in paper so the portability is less because you need a computer to access the release.

When should a Public Relations practitioner consider using a SMNR?

Of what I have learned about SMNR I think PR practitioner’s should use a SMNR when they want their information or press releases to reach a bigger audience, when they want it to be easy to find, easily updated, have extra information on the author or the event. Also if the practitioner wants to have multimedia or images, SMNR is a great choice. Also the SMNR can be shared through social networks as well like Facebook and Twitter so this is a big advantage because a big part of the population uses social networks. Using an SMNR is an effective way to reach all audiences and fast.

The purpose of my SMNR is to let people know about International Ambassador’s Visitation Day and invite prospective international students to join the activities offered on these two days so they can learn how the life of students is like at Georgia Southern University. The audiences are prospective college students, especially internationals that are looking for a college to go to. The goals are to increase variety on campus, recruit more international students and at the same time promote them.

The grammar is important always!
Don’t invent things, make sure you use real facts
Make sure your headline is clear

Save every part of your project

Add an image of the event if you have one, it will make it more interesting
Preview your release before publishing
Go over your release to check for any last minute mistakes or changes you might want to do

End of the Year

In many ways it is hard to believe that we are coming to the end of the semester. This week I ask that you reflect on the semester. What were the highs and the lows? What would you want to change & why? What have you learned that you will take with you into the next semester?

This semester has been one of the most difficult semesters I have had. I have always been a good student, and last semester my GPA was a 4.0, but this semester it was extremely hard for me and I must say I got some grades I didn’t like at all. I felt too stressed and just tried and tried, but no matter what, I still wasn’t getting the grades I wanted. Also next semester, my roommate and best friend won’t be living with me anymore so that will be a big change. The good things of this semester are that, the things I went through can only make me stronger. If I could change things, I would have liked to do more extracurricular things this semester. Next semester, I will try to balance school and extracurricular which I think will help with the stress.

My Bucket list

My bucket list is not finished, I have so many things I would love to do before dying that I don’t know where to start. When I was a kid, my dream used to be to travel all around the world, and if possible, I would still include this. I have been to latin america, north america and this summer will be going to europe and I just have found out I love seeing new places, learning about the different cultures and admiring them. Another thing would be marry of course before I die, also skydive, go to the Andes mountains, See the World Wonders and go to the Great Wall of China. Those are the ones I have on my list for now, but each day this list will get longer and longer. I would like to be remembered for my compassion, positive attitude and happiness, for my kindness and passion in everything I do.

Texting while walking

We’ve heard over and over the dangers of texting and driving, but what about the dangers of texting and walking? I know that I have had students, or people walking through the mall, almost run into me because they were too busy texting. What are your thoughts? Have you been guilty of this? What public relations tactics can be used to alert the public of this problem?

In my opinion, texting while walking is a little less dangerous than texting while driving, because texting while driving I think has a higher chance of getting you killed. That still doens’t mean that texting while walking is completely safe. Nowadays, the majority of people have cellphones therefore texting is sure to increase. I am guilty of texting while walking, but until know I have not run into anyone, probably because when I didn’t have a cellphone I would read while walking and became good at it. Yes, I think it can get annoying sometimes, especially those that go around bumping into people because they have no clue what they are doing besides their texting but we are free, and as long as we don’t endanger people’s lives I think this isn’t that bad. Things to alert others of this “problem” could be to just not be too close to people texting while walking and watch out for them, that would be my advice.

My Twitter Experience

This week we had to use Twitter for a week. I did a similar assignment some semesters back and I didn’t enjoy using twitter at all that time. I thought that I would have this same experience but I was wrong. This time, I enjoyed it more. I understood more of its benefits. I think I might also use twitter after this. Twitter, is a good way to keep in contact, tell others what is going on in your life but by being brief. I like this because it makes us go straight to the point and not waste time in putting extra words or things that shouldn’t be there. It is also a good way to be in contact with your favorite celebrities, authors and pretty much anyone you want to. You can also hear about what things are going on and even might find a job thorugh here. My opinion has changed this much since I used it for the other assignment in which I said I thought Twitter was just a waste of time. I don’t think that either anymore. I guess I just opened my mind to it, tried to stop judging without really knowing and it worked. I will keep on using Twitter, maybe not as much as facebook, because that would be bad, but yes I will use it and learn a lot of interesting things going on with my classmates, friends, celebrities I follow and the like. I am following photography pages and Paulo Coelho, my favorite author in the world. I am pretty excited about this. Well hopefully this experience can only get better and now I truly follow the “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Hopefully you all had the same enjoyable experience and find out for yourself the benefits of Twitter.

Best Advice

We all have people in our lives that we trust above everyone else. When something happens, these are the people we go to when we need a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk, someone to tell us where it all went wrong. With this in mind, what is the best advice you have ever been given? Did you follow that advice?

In my life I have been given great pieces of advice from the people closest to me, but if I had to choose one it would be…” what is it YOU want? not what others want for you, but what you want for yourself..follow it”. That has always stayed with me. It is something extremely hard for me to accomplish. Even though I want to follow this advice, I have not been able to follow it in the aspects that need it the most. I tend to think too much about what makes others that I love happy, and are guided by that a lot. In the end, I end up doing what I think I want, but it is really just because I want them to be happy. I should really change this,if not I won’t be able to truly be happy.
